7 foods you should avoid eating before the wedding

After all the time, money and effort you’ve invested on your wedding day, the last thing you need is to feel sick, have a stomach ache, feel bloated, gassy and with zero energy. The nervousness and all the other big emotions that are felt on this day are already so overwhelming that you don’t need added problems, mainly those provoked by something you ate or drank. In order to feel your very best on your wedding day, avoid eating these 7 foods!

1. Starch-based foods

Starch is a very popular carbohydrate that can be found in many types of food, including processed foods. These types of foods may be difficult to digest and we all know how we feel when we can’t digest our food properly, so stay away from white bread, pasta, corn and potatoes before the big day. If you find it hard to cut out bread from your diet, go for pita bread or yeastless bread.

2. Caffeine

A definite no-no before your wedding day is caffeine, which means no coffee, black tea, energy drinks or basically anything with caffeine. Caffeine reduces the quantity of water in the body, which can lead to dehydration and we all know that is not good for the body, nor the soul. If you’re thirsty, drink water, caffeine free tea or natural fruit juices.

3. Milk and dairy products

Avoid or at least limit all milk and dairy products, both on the day and eve of your wedding. Milk, yogurt, cheese and other dairy products can irritate your stomach and intestines, especially if you’re prone to upset stomachs or going to experience anxiety and/or other stressful emotions. It is your wedding day after all…

4. Sweets

Although sweets are great for giving you a boost of much needed energy, they’re bad because their sweet side-effects don’t last very long and have you come crashing down with no energy and a lot of tiredness soon afterwards. We don’t want that on your wedding day do we? Avoid all sweets that contain refined sugar and keep those energy levels high – you’re going to need them on the dance floor!

5. Soft drinks, sodas and other carbonated beverages

Soft drinks and basically any kind of carbonated beverages can leave you feeling bloated and gassy, so avoid drinking them at least a couple of days before the wedding and especially on the eve of the big day. Stick to water and tea, which will keep you hydrated and glowing!

6. Spicy food

Spicy food can be great tasting, but while it’s being digested it can cause all kinds of discomfort. Spicy food warms up the body quite quickly, causing you to sweat, but that’s not all: it may also upset your stomach, give you heartburn and bad breath. Steer clear of it before your wedding day!

7. Alcohol

Although a stiff drink may seem like the perfect thing to calm your pre-wedding jitters, alcohol provokes dehydration, headaches, bad breath and, in the worst case scenario, a very bad hangover. Stay far away from alcohol before the big day, but go ahead and drink green tea for energy or water to keep you alert and hydrated.

What to eat before the wedding

When deciding what to eat in the days leading up to the wedding, always choose healthy, low-fat, high protein foods. On the big day it is especially important to have a good breakfast, comprised of oatmeal (helps keep the energy levels high), green tea (a great source of antioxidants) and a portion of fruit (their vitamins do wonders for the skin). Avoid all caffeine and keep yourself hydrated by drinking a lot of water.
